Born in 1956, Alexander Kaleri (alternative transliteration: Kalery) graduated from MIPT' Faculty of Aeromechanics and Flying Machines in 1979. He worked in the Space Corporation Energia since then.
He became a member of the Energia's Cosmonaut Division in 1985 and flew to space seven years later. Kaleri's first mission on board of Mir lasted 146-day from March 17 to August 10, 1992. He made one space walk.
His second Mir mission lasted from August 17, 1996 to March 2, 1997 when he was a flight engineer of the 22nd Mir's crew. Kaleri participated in the Russian-French space research project Cassiopeia during that mission and made two space walks.
Alexander likes jogging. His hobbies are literature and growing flowers.
