Born on June 12, 1949 in Moscow, Baturin graduated from MIPT's Faculty of Aeromechanics
and Flying Machines in 1973. His specialty was Flight Dynamics and Control. He did not stop
studying, however. In 1981 Baturin received a Doctor of Law Degree from Moscow State
University.

- 1973 - 1980 Space Corporation Energia.
- 1980 - 1991 State and Law Institute, USSR Academy of Sciences.
- 1991 - 1993 Consultant at weekly TV program.
- 1993 - 1997 Advisor on National Security and Law to the Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Secretary of Russian Defense Council.
- 1996 - 1998 Member of the State Defense Council.
- Since 1998 Member of Cosmonaut Division at Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.
Yuri Baturin flew to the space as a researcher-cosmonaut for 26th primary expedition
to Mir. After that he turned to teaching of students. He holds professorships at
Moscow State University and MIPT and pursues his interests in political science.
Awards/Honors: Prize of USSR Journalist Union, 1991 for the development of the USSR
Law "On press and other mass media" adopted on June 12, 1990. Prize for "Outstanding
contribution to the development of mass media", 1997. State Counselor of the 1st category.

Yuri Baturin is divorced and lives in Moscow with his daughter Alexandra.
